Sunalta Main Street

Phase 1 – Discover June/July 2025 (Completed)

Phase 1 of the Sunalta Main Street project focused on identifying local and site-specific issues and opportunities to guide the redesign of 10 Avenue SW and the study of 14 Street SW. Between June and July 2025, the City of Calgary engaged residents, businesses, and community members through online surveys, pop-up events, and targeted outreach.

Feedback from over 800 online participants, 600 in-person attendees, and visits to 110 local businesses helped the project team understand current challenges, community priorities, and opportunities for improvements. This information directly informed the development of the design options now being reviewed in Phase 2.

The City of Calgary is currently leading Phase 2 of the Sunalta Main Street Project. Building on what was learned during Phase 1, this stage focuses on exploring design options for 10 Avenue SW and gathering public feedback on three proposed concepts - Jagged Edge, Block Shift, and High Street.

The goal is to refine design ideas that improve sidewalks, transit access, and public spaces while celebrating Sunalta’s local character. The City is also conducting an additional study of 14 Street SW to identify future opportunities for a safer and more welcoming connection between neighbourhoods. Community input collected during this phase will help shape the City’s draft design for 10 Avenue SW and guide future planning for 14 Street SW.
